The need for clarification around EVs

Vivaro Concept

Vivaro Concept

Today I stumbled upon a Wikipedia article about the Electric version of the Opel Vivaro. It says that the battery of the Vivaro has a capacity of 111 kWh, and this can’t be true. It will mean that the Van consumes near 1 kWh per km (it has around 90 km pure electric range) and this is absurd. The consumption of this cars should be around 20 and 30 kWh/100 km. It turned out, that the information is wrong in the official Vauxhall press release. In real, the battery has only a capacity of 21 kWh. The consumption is around 23 kWh / 100 km and it’s normal for a electric van. This incident affirms our theory, that a lot of explanation about certain topics of electric vehicles is still needed. I hope we can clarify a few things lot with our blog. Some of the topics we have seen as problematic:
  • Batteries in general
  • Range of Electric Vehicles
  • CO2 Emissions and Environment
  • Charging time and power

  1. Hey Olmo,

Also found this news item some time ago, an Audi which drove 600km+ and had a 115kWh battery in it. What triggered me was not the huge range, or the huge size of the battery, but the claim that the battery fitted in the car without compromising passenger or trunk space.

    • Yes, this was a record. I didn’t knew that it has 115 kWh (wow, it’s just too big!). 115 kWh / 600 km equals arround 20 kWh / 100 km, which is ok for driving on the highway.

The fact that it can charge in minutes is just amazing. I don’t want to know if the batteries like this fast charging… :-/

      thank you for your comment,
      olmo
